London, Day Three

On day 3 our group separated. Two of us went to explore the British Museum, one of many free museums in London. It was beyond incredible. We were there for three hours and only got through Egypt and Greece.

I've been to the Parthenon; it was doubly interesting then to see its frieze.

Funnily enough, very little in the British Museum is British.

I had no idea the Rosetta Stone was so huge! Better than 4 feet tall. This was shot at eye level.

Venus

Heiroglyphs from a tomb. Also some incredible cuneiform exhibits, but my camera was dying by then.

Our group met up again for a tour of various Harry Potter film locations in London. That was great, 100% cheesy fun.

Diagon Alley in movies one and two

I stood here!

Other sites included other Diagon Alleys, the Millenium Bridge and Borough Market, Daniel Radcliffe's High School, St. Paul's (whose staircases were used as Hogwarts stairs) and, of course, Platform 9 3/4.

Lastly we splintered again, met up with some other people, and went to Batman Live. This was a show at the O2 Arena, one of the biggest in the UK. It included acrobatics, pyrotechnics, cars, a hot air balloon, and many CGI scenes. It was a blast, and also full of cheesy goodness. For those interested, it combined Robin’s original backstory with the plotline of the video game Arkham Asylum.

Or so my Batman-obsessed friend tells me.

Sadly, the only shot I got was of this advert in the tubes.

Several tubes later, we were home again. That night I joined my friends in the pub around the corner well past closing time. A good time was had by all.
